OK, I just have to brag for a second & share with you all..
I run an Alabama LGBT facebook (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003005748998) & it all started when a young girl mesaged me with this:
“My name is Christina. I have a story I want to get out farther but I don’t know how. My girlfriend is graduating from West Point High. It all began with she can’t wear a tux to prom. Then she couldn’t wear a tux in her yearbook picture. Then they said she could. They handed out yearbooks the other day & they didn’t put her in it. Then they tell her she can’t be on the wall where they hang senior pictures. It’s as if she never went to school there. Students are outraged but they won’t do anything about it. It’s not fair for her to have to go through this. She is the most amazing person anyone could meet. This school is discriminating & we need the help to stop them! She has talked to the teacher ahead of the yearbook & also the principal. She has cried to them. The principal acts like he cares by telling her he is sorry but he isn’t doing anything about it. We have even tried contacting the news. But nothing. I’m am going to talk to her about the lawyer thing. You don’t understand how much this means to not just me but Brooke. She has put up with it for to long….”
I shared her story on the page & started a petition & facebook page for Brooke. We’ve gotten over 600 signatures and 230 likes in only 48 hours.

And within 48 these hours we had people contacting us from ABC 33/40, LGBTQ Advocate for the Southern Poverty Law Center, & The Cullman Times. She was interviewed by ABC 33/40 and it aired at 4pm central time today.

We’ve had a huge wave of supporters sending her story out to news stations, gay rights groups, and other media sources. A large group of girls have gathered and dressed in guy clothes to school in support of Brooke to stand up to the school. Her story continues to further and I’m so proud to have all of this happen for my actions! Not for anything, just to stand up for what I believe in and do what’s right in my heart. I was extremely thrilled when I got on today to the news article and interview! I’ve never felt so good about something I’ve done in all my life!
